Jizzong

I am finally back to the land of the living! We went to visit the orphanage on Wed and were taken out to lunch by the director. About half an hour later I was not feeling well. The only thing I ate that Steve and Anrong didn't was a tiny bit of Peking duck which had raw spring onion on it, obviously washed in local water. A big mistake! I've been very sick for days.

Zong is also sick. Steve took him to hospital in Nanjing where they said he had a throat infection and was given some medicine. As he still had a high fever when we arrived in Shanghai yesterday Steve took him to children's hosp here where he was told he now had a chest infection. He was given antibiotics by IV drip, which is the way they do it here and will go back today for some more. Hopefully that will do the trick. All the children will have their medical's tomorrow for their Australian visa's so it is very important he is well enough to pass.

Our guide had been great. The first thing she did when we arrived in Shanghai is take me to hospital, then a few hours later she took Steve and Zong! The medical care here is definitely better than in Nanjing! Apparently I had a reaction to the medicine they gave me in Nanjing which is why I've been so bad.

Steve has been absolutely amazing looking after us all. I was unable to do anything so he did it all on his own in a small, cramped, not so flash hotel room.

The local pronunciation of Zhizong is "Jizzong" with the accent on zong, sort of like shazaam! He is a very cute and alert baby but quite behind developmentally. He can't sit up on his own yet so we may need some PT when we get him home. He does this funny thing with his tongue that is hilarious - you'll have to wait and see!

Anrong is a fabulous big sister. She is crazy about her brother and can always get him to laugh. She has been such a big help to us on this trip!
